Toyin Abraham Answers All The Questions Her Fans Have Been Asking – On Her Marriage, Name Change, Seun Egbebe, Save Mayowa Campaign And More

From separating from her husband, Adeniyi Johnson to dating a movie producer, Seun Egbegbe and getting involved in the Mayowa Ahmed’s issue, Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham was in the news for many reasons last year.

In an interview with Ebuka Uchendu on Rubbin’ Minds, Toyin Abraham answers the many questions her fans have been asking about these.

On why she changed her name

It’s just a family decision. My dad’s name is Abraham but our family name is Aimakhu. I also wanted to prove a point by changing the name and I’m proving the point already. I want to start afresh which I’ve started. It’s a new beginning. It’s a new me. It’s a new start.

Although I could have decided I don’t want to change it because my elder ones changed theirs a long time ago but I just decided to change it.

If she has enjoyed her journey into stardom so far

I enjoy it but it’s not easy. To God be the glory. The hardest part about being famous is a lot of times, people are not ready to hear your own side of the story. A lot of times, there are things that are not even true, so, they just put it out there and you’ll be like, “are they talking about my Toyin? Is it Toyin Abraham or Aimhaku? What are they talking about? I didn’t even do this,” but how many people do you want to explain to and your team keep telling you, “keep quiet, don’t say anything.”

So they are saying things about you and you can’t even defend yourself and sometimes when they want to defend you, they had to just write it shabbily and you just want to defend yourself but you cannot do that.

On how she handles the criticism on social media

Like I always say and I’ll say it again, I have the best fans in the whole world. My fans are the best. They’re loyal, they’re sweet. A lot of times, I don’t even have to respond, my fans do that for me. I know sometimes I’m teaching a lot of people things like even if you want to correct me, don’t correct me publicly, you can always slide into my DM but you know what, I’m used to it now.

I’m not bothered by social media anymore because I realised that most of the people that insult you on social media, when they see you out there, they want to have pictures with you and some times, people that insult you on social media are ghost followers. They can even be your friend that doesn’t really like you. I’m used to it.

On controversies

A lot of people have been saying controversies but sit down and think about it, I have not done anything, yes, I can say it anywhere. The only time I think there was this issue was Mayowa’s issue and may her soul rest in peace. I don’t want to talk about Mayowa because you don’t talk about the dead.

But the thing is, I’ve actually done nothing. They’ll always bring my name into issues. It’s not me. It’s either Toyin’s friend or Toyin estranged husband, Toyin’s ex-husband’s  girlfriend. So, its not me. I’ve actually done nothing.

So, I want you to sit down and think about it. They always put my name in people’s names to boost sales.

On Seun Egbegbe

Sometimes, what you see is actually different from what is happening, so, when people say Toyin’s ex, I just laugh and I’m like, ok. Its part of the price to pay…

I regret that relationship and that’s why when I see any woman, that’s why I was there for Mercy Aigbe, when I see any woman going through emotional stuffs, I want to quickly talk to them because I made a terrible mistake.

If she’s open to dating again

For now, its just my career. I think I’m not lucky when it comes to love but I’m lucky when it comes to my job, so I’ll just go with the lucky one.

After Okafors law I realised that there was this line, I’m sure Omoni Oboli didn’t know. That line was part of me. I was the one that said that line. The line was,

“You don’t need to cook for a man, you don’t need to fraternize with his family, you don’t need to wash his clothes, if he’s gonna be yours, he’s gonna be yours,” and I’m working on it.

And I’m the kind of girl, I want to cook for my man, wash his boxers and it doesn’t work but I’m just going to be me now. For now it’s my work and career. I’m married to my work and engaged to my career.

On dating someone in the industry

No. never, I won’t try that again. Because I was married to a guy in the industry, it didn’t work out. I’m an emotional person, I can’t sit and watch someone I married watch me get married to someone else. I like feeling people’s pain so I know how it hurts.
